+CITY OF CULTURE OF GALICIA
The architect Peter Eisenman built a ‘city of culture’ called ‘Cidade da Cultura de Galicia’ in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. The building was created to be a national symbol of Galician history and culture. It consists of four structures that blend with each other and rise as an amorphous structure out of the landscape. It seems like the building is wave-like rising and disappearing from the floor. The design is based on the street plan of the medieval pilgrimage city of Santiago de Compostela, overlayed by a Cartesian grid. It is built of six elements that are divided into three pairs. Small pathways between the buildings lead to a central square.
